Subject Knowledge

Aims

In CO3013, the student will complete the project work planned and started in CO3012 and submit a substantial Computer Science project.

Learning Outcomes

To implement the end product according to the design developed during CO3012. To test and evaluate the end product. To write a substantial report on the project.

Methods

Individual research, meetings with supervisors.

Assessment

Interview, viva, effort and final report.

Subject Skills

Aims

To teach students scientific writing and problem solving skills.

Learning Outcomes

Ability to carry out independent study Time management over a sustained course of research. Practice in designing a substantial end product. Presentation skills in addressing an audience during a short talk. Skills involved in producing a written report.

Methods

Individual research, meetings with supervisors.

Assessment

The assessment of CO3013 is broken down as follows:
  1. 5%: Informal interview before Easter.
  2. 10%: Oral examination and demonstration of software.
  3. 80%: Final project report.
  4. 5%: Mark for student effort and participation, based on a weekly diary.

Explanation of Pre-requisites

This module continues the project initiated in CO3012.

Course Description

The purpose of the Computer Science Project (Modules CO3012 and CO3013) is for the student to combine skills acquired in the other Computer Science modules in the production of a suitable project. In doing this, the student will assimilate information from a variety of sources and demonstrate the ability to pursue independent study. It is intended that the project should produce some end product for users other than the author. A collection of course exercises, a literature search or a descriptive evaluation would not be suitable.
